Post-Race
Runner's Story
The BabyFit Runners all
finished the race. Here they are post-race
feeling great!

One of our women finished 2nd in her age group with a 6:25 pace!!
The rest of us felt like we made a pretty good showing as well given
that we've recently had our lives turned upside down by newborns,
clocking 7:15, 8:11, 8:15 and 9:30 paces. In fact, I think if we
could have competed as an all female team instead of as a co-ed team,
we would have advanced to 2nd in the team competition!! Not too
shabby for a bunch of women 5 to 8 months post-partum!!
Our speedster, Rachel Stanton, is from Australia but has been in
Scotland for the last 7 months while her husband is finishing a medical
residency. So not only did she fly all the way from Scotland for
the race but she posted a PR (8 months post-partum!! ). Amy
missed her PR by only 5 seconds!! The rest of us have a little
ways to go to get back to the PR range but we were only 5 months
post-delivery and our top 4 finishers all had c-sections.
But most of all we had a great time and felt like we were setting good
examples of the importance of fitness for our little ones who were all
there with their Dads to meet us at the finish line.

Three Options
There
are three running options - the 10K, a 3K and a kid's fun run. The
course for the 10K begins and ends at Peabody School, which is located
at the corner of 5th and C Streets NE, just across from Stanton Park.
We run through the historic Capitol Hill neighborhoods, around Lincoln
Park and RFK Stadium, down East Capitol Street and around the Capitol,
and then back up the Hill.
A Team Effort
Why run alone? Start or join a running team - the Classic has room for
all levels of runners, from the swift to the deliberate but fun-loving,
in both the 10K and the 3K races. (Teams in 2007 represented
DC Frontrunners, WRC, the Federal Trade Commission, Intersolutions and
many others.) As part of a
team, you'll get a special training T-shirt and the chance to compete
for prizes. Click here for more information
on forming or joining a team.

The Capitol Hill Cluster
School
The race benefits the Capitol Hill Cluster School, a
wonderful DC public school serving approximately 1000 students from
pre-school through 8th grade (for more information on the Cluster
School, visit www.capitolhillclusterschool.org). In 2005, the Classic
raised a record $45,000 for the Cluster School, and this year we aim to
reach $50,000 for this key DC institution.
